In a nutshell, this project will focus on sustainable maternal health by providing reusable hygiene kits in both Haiti and Africa and will help pay for soap to complete the hygiene kits and ship them to Africa and Haiti.
In both Haiti and Africa, women and girls face significant barriers to accessing safe and sustainable hygiene resources. Limited access to postpartum supplies, menstrual hygiene products, contributes to increased health risks, school absenteeism, and social stigma.
In Haiti, many displaced mothers lack access to basic postpartum care supplies. In Africa, young girls frequently miss school due to inadequate menstrual hygiene resources. Reusable hygiene kits provide a sustainable solution that promotes dignity, education continuity, and improved health outcomes.
The grant funds for this project will be used for the purchase of supplies in Africa and Haiti to finish the hygiene kits, primarily bars of soap, the funds will also be used for shipping the feminine hygiene kits to Africa and Haiti. Rotarians have been involved in this project early by putting together the bulk of the feminine hygiene kits at the Rotary District 5400 Conference.
