The Q'aaq stove supports Mayan communities and families with the following:
1. Eliminate indoor air pollution
2. Eliminate the possibility of children falling into the open fires
3. Enrich the family economy by reducing the expenditure of time and money spent on the procurement of firewood
4. Elevates the dignity of women by lifting them off the ground where they can only cook in one pot at a time
5. Protects the environment by reducing deforestation
7. Mitigates climate change through the elimination of CO2 emissions and black carbon soot.
8. Preserves the ancient Mayan tradition of fire and hearth.
The project will be completed in approximately 2 months, September and October 2026. In addition to the two months, this project requires follow up and maintenance for 10 years which is provided by the TLR group based in Guatemala.
The project funds will be used to purchase four stoves for four different Mayan families. During this project, we anticipate 5 club members to visit the families who received a stove and will be in communication with members of TLR to discuss progress and continue collaboration.
