The Rotary Club of Fort Collins has long recognized that the holiday season can place additional financial strain on families who are already working hard to meet their basic needs. For many households, the increased costs associated with school breaks, colder weather, and holiday traditions make it especially difficult to provide a festive meal for their loved ones. Through our ongoing partnership with Mujeres de Colores, we have seen firsthand how meaningful a holiday food basket can be in helping families celebrate with dignity and joy. Mujeres de Colores is a community-based organization dedicated to empowering Latina women and families in Northern Colorado through advocacy, education, leadership development, and culturally responsive support services. Their trusted relationships within the community make them an ideal partner to identify families who would benefit most from this assistance and to ensure resources are distributed in a respectful and equitable manner. These funds will provide 70 holiday food baskets valued at $90 each
to local families experiencing financial hardship. Each food basket will include ingredients and staples needed to prepare a traditional holiday meal, allowing families to gather together and celebrate the season without the added stress of food insecurity.
This project has had a large number (30-50) of members engaged, from ordering, picking up and sorting the food, to packing the bags to include fresh and non-perishable items for a projected 70 families. Members then team up to make the deliveries. We plan to deliver holiday meal supplies to 70 families, valued at ~$90 per family. The cost of the bags will be borne by the club so that all funds go to purchase food.
