The Rotary Club of Nampa is partnering with Terry Reilly Health Services (TRHS) in support of the Early Childhood Development program for children with developmental delays.
TRHS is a federally qualified health center that serves patients regardless of their ability to pay.
The Early Childhood Development focuses on the care and education for OB patients and pediatric patients between the ages of 0-4. Paired with the difficulties that come with a developmental delays, patients face more significant barriers to receiving the care they need due to their insurance status, income, and geographic location or lack of transportation. 34% of our patients are uninsured and 50% of patients live below 100% of the federal poverty level.
The program begins with the health of the mother before a child is born. In addition to supporting a healthy pregnancy, prenatal visits are a time for families to learn the importance of regular well-baby care, developmental milestones, childhood nutrition, safety, and more. Once the baby arrives, regular visits to a primary care provider ensure that physical, cognitive, and social development are on track and that any challenges are addressed in the formative years before school.
The grant will help support the purchase of 450 baby boxes and 260 outdoor play kits for expectant mothers and pediatric patients.
A 'baby box' is delivered in mom's third trimester of pregnancy, and includes a few essential items like diapers and a baby toothbrush, plus information about child safety, oral health and breastfeeding.
The outdoor play kits support parent-child bonding through outdoor exploration and gross motor play.
Members of the Rotary Club of Nampa will engage in service by assembling the baby boxes and outdoor play kits to distribute to families during their visits to Terry Reilly Health Services clinics.
