The project identifies period poverty among 79 girls at Magogi Secondary School as the main challenge, where learners face lack of access to sanitary wear, resulting in absenteeism, reduced participation in class, and emotional discomfort. Additional needs include limited menstrual health education, stigma surrounding menstruation, and inadequate access to sustainable hygiene materials.
The project responds to these needs by providing reusable sanitary pads, washing soap, and structured menstrual hygiene education sessions. The reusable pads offer a long-term and cost-effective solution that ensures consistent access to menstrual hygiene products, while the education component equips learners with knowledge on menstrual health management, proper use and care of reusable pads, and confidence to address stigma.
The implementation period is September 2026 to April 2027, during which the project will focus on procurement and distribution of sanitary materials, delivery of menstrual health education sessions, and ongoing follow-up to assess usage, attendance, and impact on learners' wellbeing and school participation.
Project funds will be allocated toward purchase of reusable sanitary pads (500 units), procurement of washing soap for beneficiaries, transport and distribution logistics, and facilitation of menstrual health education sessions, including training materials and coordination costs necessary for effective implementation and monitoring.
As a Global Service eClub member, my role will involve participating in the distribution of sanitary pads, supporting and delivering menstrual health education sessions, and assisting with awareness and engagement activities at the school. I will also contribute to follow-up and monitoring efforts to help assess the project's impact on girls' school attendance, confidence, and menstrual hygiene practices.
