Summary: Summer Camp Enrichment Scholarships of up to $750 each for summer 2027
A need for assistance with attending enriching summer camps is demonstrated by recent data showing that approximately 50% of students in the Sedona-Oak Creek Joint Unified School District are from low-income families, identified by eligibility for free or reduced-price lunch. Enriching summer camps such as for music, sports, art or academics help students by boosting confidence, fostering social-emotional skills, providing hands-on, engaging activities, promoting independence, and encouraging new friendships outside the traditional classroom. A panel of Rotarians review and choose recipients from those students who apply by completing an application that includes an essay related to why they want to go to this camp and the benefits of the camp; submit a video demonstrating or telling of their current skill; and a letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor. In the fall, all recipients of scholarships present about their experience to Rotarians at a regular meeting, providing the opportunity for more growth through sharing in front of an audience.
