We invited both optometrists from Star Valley and at the end of their presentation we asked if there was any financial assistance they received to pay for eye care for those who could not afford it. They said they would pay for care out of their own pockets as they could. We offered to establish a fund to help pay for eye care for those who visited their offices.
The purpose of this grant is to establish the initial seed money of $25,000 to get the fund established by June 2027.
The Rotary Club of Star Valley will be the administrators of the fund. We will work with the both optometrists in our area, Voss Vision and Lower Valley Vision, who will dedicate their efforts to identifying clients in need of financial assistance. In turn every quarter they will present to our club the costs they have identified as relevant to the fund. The list will include procedures, services and eyewear which our club will then approve.
The club will take part in helping with examinations at the elementary schools. We will assist the optometrists with their free exams. We will also pay for the eyewear for students who are unable to afford their own.
We hope to soon have one of the optometrists as a Rotary member. They have started the initial process to become a member
Those benefiting from this project are anyone who goes to either Voss Vision or Lower Valley Vision located in Star Valley who cannot pay for eye care, whether that is the examination, glasses, travel to a specialist and so forth.
