Anchorage East Rotary awards college and vocational scholarships each year to graduating students from East Anchorage High School and Bartlett High School as part of our Vocational Service Program. The funds will be used to provide scholarships for the 2027-2028 academic year, the scholarship review and awards will be completed between mid-March and mid-April 2027. Many of the students at East and Bartlett are from lower to moderate income families and they depend upon scholarships to help fund their post-secondary education.
In past years we have had more well-deserving scholarship applications than we have been able to fund. We have typically awarded between 8-10 scholarships in varying amounts each year.
Anchorage East Rotarians will participate on the scholarship committees; we have two groups of volunteers - one group for each school consisting of 4-5 Rotarians who review the scholarship applications and select the scholarship recipients and amounts - for a total of 8-10 scholarship committee volunteers.
We host the scholarship recipients at a Club meeting after they have been notified of the scholarship awards, invite their family members as well, and introduce each recipient with information about their college or vocational education plans and course of study.
In addition, AER members on the Vocational Services committee will follow up with the students at least one time during their 2027-2028 academic year to offer mentorship.
