Project Overview
The Soldotna Rotary Club is proud to partner with the Tsalteshi Trails Association in a meaningful community improvement effort at the Slikok Multi-Use Trail system. As part of a larger project to enhance the parking area, improve trail access, and develop 2.5 kilometers of new trail, our club will provide both funding and volunteer labor (masonry slab, roof carpentry, metal roofing installation) to construct a new outhouse facility for trail users. This partnership reflects Rotary's enduring commitment to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve.
Community Need
The access corridor being improved currently serves approximately 15,000 users per year - yet at present, no restroom facilities exist for recreators at this location. The Slikok trails are a beloved part of Soldotna's recreational landscape, serving as a vital destination for winter activities and increasingly for summer use as well, including trail running. The addition of a permanent outhouse will remove a significant barrier to enjoyment and access, allowing more community members - and visitors - to safely and comfortably utilize these trails year-round.
A Legacy of Service
This project carries a satisfying echo of Rotary's very origins. In 1907, just two years after Paul Harris founded the Rotary Club of Chicago, the club undertook its first major civic project: addressing the city's critical lack of public sanitation infrastructure. More than a century later, the Soldotna Rotary Club finds itself in that same tradition - rolling up its sleeves to solve a fundamental public need. Building an outhouse may be a modest undertaking, but it stands squarely in the spirit of that first act of Rotary service: improving public health, expanding access, and strengthening community. The project timeline is added to the Documents of this application showing that the project will be completed within the period of the grant in 2026-2027.
We have drawings and construction estimates upon request.
