Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a national non-profit with a local chapter in Anchorage, Alaska. The mission of Sleep in Heavenly Peace is to ensure every child has their own bed to sleep in, that no child has to sleep on the floor.
Research shows that about 3% of people living in Anchorage do not have a bed to sleep in.
In the Anchorage area, there are currently 184 kids on Sleep in Heavenly Peace's waiting list to receive beds because they don't have one. Most have never had a bed.
Anchorage South Rotary plans to be directly involved in this project by partnering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace for a hands-on bunk bed build. All volunteers would be hands on with cutting the wood pieces, sanding, drilling, staining, and branding the wood pieces that make headboards, footboards, slats, side rails, and safety rails to complete a bunk bed. The opportunity to directly volunteer and contribute to labor costs is a benefit of the program.
Rotarians building beds from scratch and delivering complete sets with bedding, a mattress, and a pillow to children will directly address the mission of "No Child Should have to Sleep on the Floor."
Project expenses would cover the purchase of the wood, 20 mattresses, and bedding.
Timeline:
We will be building about 20 beds in the fall of 2026.
We will deliver the 20 beds to kids in the Anchorage area shortly following the build (Fall/Winter 2026).
