Summary: Purchase of a mobile unit of ski equipment for school age kids
The Anchorage Rotary Club proposes to support the Ski Mobile program led by the Nordic Skiing Association of Anchorage in partnership with the Anchorage School District. The program addresses a clear community need: many elementary students lack access to cross-country skiing due to the cost of and availability of equipment. The Ski Mobile meets this need by delivering a complete set of Nordic ski equipment directly to schools, allowing entire PE classes to participate regardless of income or prior experience. Each mobile unit includes approximately 30 sets of skis, boots, and poles and is rotated among schools throughout the winter season. Anchorage Rotary will provide a $15,000 grant to support the purchase and maintenance of mobile ski equipment, expanding the program's capacity to serve additional schools and students. This investment removes barriers to participation, promotes physical health, and introduces students to a lifelong outdoor activity that is uniquely Alaskan. This effort reflects Rotary's mission of Service Above Self by advancing youth development, education, and health while increasing equitable access to outdoor recreation. Members of the Anchorage Rotary Club will actively support this project through funding and volunteer engagement, including assisting with equipment preparation and supporting school-based ski days.
