Summary: Improving gravel playing fields and providing softball equipment for school age girls
The Anchorage Rotary Club proposes to partner with the Anchorage Parks Foundation to improve Fields A1 and A2 at the Chuck Albrecht Softball Complex, which are used for girls' middle and high school softball through the Anchorage School District. Currently, these fields consist of dirt and gravel surfaces that limit safe play. This project will fund targeted field improvements and softball-specific equipment not otherwise supported by the school district, ensuring safer conditions and expanding access to girls' softball programming. This effort reflects Rotary's mission of Service Above Self by advancing youth development, education, and health. Increased access to athletics supports confidence, teamwork, and school engagement for young people in our community. Project improvements will provide lasting benefit through an existing, community-maintained facility and are expected to support 100+ student athletes annually, while increasing the number of games and practices that can be safely held each season. Anchorage Rotary members will actively support this project through funding, volunteer engagement, and ongoing community partnership. This includes Club members assisting with repairing and maintaining ball fields, such as cleaning/reading the fields, field striping, and helping update/renovate the dug outs. We also want to celebrate the first game on the new field with the kids. This project timeline is within the one year grant period.
