The St. Arbor Community Garden is a vital resource for addressing food insecurity in Denton County. The Little Elm Rotary club has been volunteering at the St. Arbor Community Garden for several years. In 2024-2025 our club, for the first time, was able to provide some funding to help expand their services. This year we are expanding their effectiveness by requesting funds to implement the Garden to Table: Nourish and Know project described below.
The Garden to Table: Nourish and Know project will provide a series of cooking classes (held at the Community Garden) to teach recipients of vegetables grown on-site how to best use the ingredients they receive by: teaching affordable, nutritious cooking techniques, sharing culturally relevant diabetic friendly and low gluten meal ideas, building confidence around fresh food preparation and empowering families with long term skills. A kid friendly cooking class, "Little Sprouts Spoon Club" will also be offered during spring break.
Recipients will receive a take home meal kit with printed recipe cards.
