Many graduating seniors at Granbury High School face financial barriers as they pursue post-secondary education. With 58% of Granbury ISD students living at or below the poverty line, the cost of continuing education can be a major obstacle-especially for those planning to attend trade schools, technical programs, or community colleges, where scholarships are less commonly available.
To address this need, the Granbury Rotary Club will continue its annual scholarship program, awarding $30,000 in scholarships to Granbury High School seniors. Scholarships are granted in $500, $1,000, and $1,500 increments and are open to students pursuing any form of higher education, including trade certifications, technical training, two-year colleges, and four-year universities. This inclusive approach ensures that all students-regardless of their chosen path-have the support they need to continue their education.
Funds from this grant will be used solely for student scholarships. Applications are reviewed by club members through a paper-based evaluation process, and recipients are selected based on a combination of merit, need, and personal commitment to future goals. Awards are distributed through Granbury ISD to ensure proper handling and disbursement before the fall semester begins.
Rotary members are involved throughout the process, from promoting the scholarship opportunity to reviewing applications and participating in recognition events for the recipients. The application window opens in early spring, with scholarship recipients announced by May and funds disbursed by summer.
By investing in the future of local students, the Granbury Rotary Club is not only supporting individual success but also helping break cycles of poverty and strengthening the long-term vitality of the Granbury community.
