Summary: Packing nutritious, shelf stable meals for families and individuals facing food insecurity in North County
According to the San Diego Hunger Coalition, over 25% of people in San Diego county are experiencing food insecurity. We are working with The Outreach Program (https://outreachprogram.org/) to pack nutritious, shelf-stable meals which will be distributed to North County families in need . The Outreach Program is a nonprofit dedicated to combating malnutrition that engages volunteers to pack shelf stable meals with 7-11 grams of plant-based protein that are fortified with 21 essential vitamins and minerals.
Our district grant funds will be used to purchase the meal ingredients which cost $0.37 per meal. We have a goal of our volunteers packing over 5,000 meals during our meal packing day. We will invite other Escondido and North County clubs to join us as volunteers.
