Summary: Provide personal mentoring, tutoring, job preparation activities, and enrichment activities for highly at-risk youth
Escondido Education COMPACT is a community-based organization that works with Escondido's most at-risk, underserved youth. COMPACT provides personal development activities, mentoring, and facilitating activities to prepare students for the workforce. Through these programs, COMPACT helps Escondido youth to develop strong, positive behaviors and ensure that they have access to the necessary materials and educational support to graduate or obtain a high school equivalency diploma. This grant will focus attention on continuation students at Valley High School, and will 1) provide mentoring to students; 2) provide career preparation workshops (job application, resume, interview skills, dress for success); and, 3) provide tutoring and materials to help non-graduates prepare for the HISET (diploma equivalency) tests.
Club members will participate as presenters in career workshops, mentors to at-risk students, and tutors in the HISET preparation program. There will also be opportunities to participate in joint service projects with COMPACT.
