Title 1 schools with students from low-income families who are unable to afford basic school supplies. Child health and obesity are at an all-time high in the Southeast San Diego community due to limited access to fresh, healthy food and a lack of education on healthy meal planning on a limited income. We participate in Healthy Kids Day with the Jackie Robinson YMCA (JRYMCA) to demonstrate to kids and parents how to prepare healthy snacks and meals. We also help supply kids with reading books at this event with over 2,000 children in attendance. We partner with the Elementary Institute of Science (EIS) to fund scholarships for low-income students to attend the summer STEAM program that teaches science, technology, engineering & math. We also partner with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, Encanto Branch (BGCGSD) to help fund scholarships for children to attend the afterschool program and summer camps that promote healthy lifestyles, good character building and educational programming focusing on the fine arts, technology, e-sports and fun physical fitness. We also partner with Keiller Leadership Academy Middle School students for Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service and create wellness kits for vistims of human trafficking, while also educating students on the importance of awareness as well as giving back to the community.
Club members are involved in all projects through buying, packing, facilitating, and delivering school supplies, working with the kids during the special events with JRYMCA and BGCGSD events, and volunteering at EIS to help with projects.
