Summary: Packing Food for Surprise Az USA with Surprise Meals of Hope Sponsored by Rotary
The Surprise and Sun City West Club has been working with the local Valley View Food Bank on a regular basis. We identified a need to provide FDA food to the Valley View Food Bank via the Meals of Hope Organization. We arranged and committed to pack at least 25,000 meals (via shelf stable food packages) in Surprise AZ at the Ottawa University campus on Oct. 25, 2025. We are in planning for it now and conducting fundraising efforts to support this effort.
In Surprise Az and Sun City West AZ the percentages of folks living below the poverty line is 5.4 and 5.3 percent (respectively). This food will be distributed over 12 days following packing. Club members have already been involved in the planning for this effort and we anticipate that approximately 75% (25 members) will be involved in the specific packing. We also anticipate that the community will provide and additional 75 people to participate in the packing. Individual meal packages cost approximately $0.31 per meal and will be invoiced after the packing event. The funding from this grant will pay for a portion of the food costs. There are no costs anticipated for the facility, and the club will bear the marketing costs.
