The Alzheimer's Resource of Alaska (ARA) is requesting support from several Anchorage Rotary Clubs to fund the Fall 2025 Forget Me Not Chorus. The Forget Me Not Chorus is a unique, community-based initiative enriching the lives of Alaskans affected by Alzheimer's Disease and related dementias.
The numbers of Alaskans diagnosed with Alzheimer's is projected to nearly double in Alaska by 2030.
Music has a profound therapeutic impact on individuals with dementia, helping preserve memory, reduce anxiety, and improve overall well-being. The positive impacts on participants are clear as the Forget Me Not Chorus brings together individuals with Alzheimer's, their caregivers and community volunteers for an 8 weeks of singing sessions which will culminate into a Public Concert featuring songs and personal stories that foster connection, dignity and joy.
Funding for this program will help cover:
*Educational & Outreach activities including memory screening, referrals, classes etc.
*Program staffing & assistance
*Materials, equipment, refreshments and venue support
This project will also include hands on Rotary volunteer opportunities to include peer participation in the Chorus, assistance with the Community Concert (greeting, set-up, clean-up, assembly of singing materials and more)
Often for Alzheimer's individuals "SINGING IS EASIER THAN WORDS".
