We would like to apply for funds for the Clean River Program in Santee. The Clean River staff and volunteers clean thousands of pounds of trash from the San Diego Riverbed and adjacent River Park Trail areas, such as Mast Park. They have cleaned a staggering 53,550 pounds of trash in Santee so far in 2024. This is not only vital for the health of the river ecosystem, but also decreases the public health hazards of pollution and a healthier environment for Santee residents to enjoy recreation.
We were hoping to apply for funds which would help sponsor community river cleanups in Santee, purchase cleanup supplies such as trash bags, and cover the costs of data collection on the amount and type of trash present to inform efficient and effective cleanup efforts.
Their Education program also provides free innovative STEM learning experiences along the San Diego River to Santee K-12 students. The majority of the schools we serve are Title 1 and we aim to serve a majority of underserved students and connect them to nature.
