Summary: Packing nutritious, shelf stable meals for families and individuals facing food insecurity in the South Bay
According to the SD County Office of Emergency Services, one in three families in Chula Vista, National City, South San Diego, and Imperial Beach are experiencing food insecurity. Our Outreach Program project will involve packing nutritious, shelf-stable meals which will be distributed to South Bay families in need through the Chula Vista Community Collaborative, San Diego Rescue Mission, Chula Vista Elementary School District, and the San Diego Food Bank. The Outreach Program is a nonprofit dedicated to combating malnutrition that engages volunteers to pack shelf stable meals with 7-11 grams of plant-based protein that are fortified with 21 essential vitamins and minerals.
Our district grant funds will be used to purchase the meal ingredients which cost $0.37 per meal. We have a goal of packing 17,000 meals and engaging 100 volunteers during our meal packing day. We will invite CVSR's sponsored clubs Bonita Vista and Hilltop High Interact and the Chula Vista Rotaract to join us as volunteers.
