This District Grant is to help fund travel and meal expenses for a French speaking nurse to travel to Bujumbura, Burundi for the purpose of making as assessment of neonatal care practices currently in use at the Hôpital Prince Régent Charles (HPRC). The assessment is intended for use in a future global grant proposal. HPRC is a public hospital that serves a very poor population in and around Bujumbura. The nurse we have selected practices in a remote area in northern Quebec Province in Canada where she works with an Inuit population. She has excellent experience working in a low resource environment. As a native French speaker, she will be able to go on rounds with the healthcare providers and easily communicate with them.
RC Del Mar Club Member Karin Davies (pediatrician) and her neonatologist co-partner on several Rotary global grants will act as advisors to the nurse and will work together with her to develop a program for the visit. We are anticipating 10 days to 2 weeks for this visit in Burundi.
Other travel expenses will be covered by Rotarians Dugan and Philippe Lamoise.
