Project Description

Country: USA

Location: San Diego

Total Budget: $6,464

Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Community economic development

Activity Type: Community Development: General

Summary: Electric warehouse lift to allow improved distribution of goods to families of enlisted military personel

STEP's mission is to build financial self-sufficiency among junior military enlisted members, Veterans, and their families who are facing financial crisis. STEP provides counseling, education, and emergency funds. at no cost to their clients. STEP also provides food, diapers, hygiene products, basic household items, clothing, and children's necessities from their warehouse in San Diego and at remote distribution events.

The electric lift to be purchased with this grant will allow STEP to accept and move palletized and other bulk material. Currently, safely loading and unloading trucks with this type of material is difficult. Their ability to manage new contributions and to support off-site distributions with material from the warehouse is limited. Last year 6,846 families benefited through distributions at the STEP warehouse and through their Warehouse on Wheels program. The electric lift would also be extremely useful for managing goods on the higher warehouse shelves.

The electric stacker to be purchased with this grant is essentially a small, walk-behind fork lift. It can lift as much as 3,300 pounds a distance of 98 inches and is driven by a walking operator. This link provides an example of the item to be purchased with this grant:
