Summary: Local community project benefiting the Environmental Nature Center in Newport Beach, California, USA.
The Environmental Nature Center (ENC) is the only non-profit combined habitat and educational center for children in Orange County, California. Our club members work with the ENC Director to determine the immediate needs to replenish or upgrade the sustainability of their natural world which will have a positive impact on the students and local community by providing a safe learning environment for the students and visitors. Rotarians will provide the funding for such a project and then hands on participation in the implementation. Prior projects with the ENC have included tree planting, upgrades to the butterfly house and more native butterfly larvae, replace decomposed granite paths, and newly trained docents. The project will begin in January 2025 and will be completed by the end of April 2025 in coordination with Earth Day and/or Arbor Day. Besides the ENC, the beneficiaries of this project will be the community who comes to learn about the habitat as there are over 27,000 students that go through the ENC each year to enhance their education and there are even more community citizens from all over Orange County who come to visit the ENC and learn about the different plant life and wildlife habitats there. This also provides a great opportunity for public relations to the community about Rotary as there will be signs stating our involvement in this project at the ENC.
