The purpose of the project is to support community involvement and engagement activities of the Interact Club of Santa Ana High School. Santa Ana High School operates in the inner-city of Santa Ana where the vast majority of students come from immigrant home in which English is not the first language. Many student if they pursue higher education will be among the first in their families to attend post-secondary education. The grant's purpose is to encourage community service and the pursuit of leadership skills as a worthy of time and effort by students.
#1. Sponsor a Community Service Award - Operated like Shark Tank where students are encouraged to submit a community service project.
#2 Sponsor 2 youth for ROTARY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD - RYLA
#3 Award a $500 Community Service Scholarship
The Community Service Award project will be a joint project of between the Rotary Club of Orange County LA, Interact Club, and student if the student is not a member of the Interact Club. The following criteria will be used to select the "winning" project.
1) Community Impact
2) Maximum engagement by students and Rotary members
3) Originaliity
The selection of RYLA participants will be based on prior record of community service and future leadership potential through a written application.
The Rotary Community Scholarship will be based on both community service, financial need and academic record.
4 members of the club are expected to be involved through the award screening process, another 20 are expected to be involved with the hands-on community service project, and additional 4-5 in the scholarship selection committee.
