The Poudre Learning Center (PLC) staff require support, equipment, and supplies to model how to move natural systems learning preparation out to K-8 schools. The planned in-school outreach programs will amplify the field experiences of classes of students who visit the Rotary-funded PLC InSTEM (Inspired by Nature, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) "Station on the Prairie". Greeley-After Hours Rotary (GAHR) members, working with Samantha Wolniakowski, Curriculum Specialist, and Abbey Shaneyfelt, Lead Ambassador, have arranged-- in synergy with contacts at NASA's GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) program staff--to model novel ecological and sustainability awareness modules with nine K-8 classes of 25 students each at Weld School District 6 Christa McAuliffe S.T.E.M. Academy. For example, NASA's Earth to Sky contractor helps interpreters and environmental educators access and use NASA science.
Consistent with Rotary's international commitment to both education and environment, this Rotary year 2024-25 project is designed to lead up to Earth Day, April 22nd, 2025. Detailed description of project components and line-item details will be available in the third quarter of 2024. The coordinators, Ken and Paulette Weaver, and GAHR leadership team will follow up to witness and document deployment of this enriching way of reaching several hundred elementary and middle school learners prior to their engaging in proven field experience activities at the Poudre Learning Center InSTEM station.
