Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Phoenix, Arizona

Total Budget: $5,000

Area of Focus: Maternal and child health

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: Provide purses and backpacks filled with hygiene products for recent graduates of alcohol & drug rehab programs.

Purse Impressions celebrates the accomplishments and milestones for individuals recovering from alcohol and drug treatment programs. This is accomplished by gifting a "Fresh Start" purse or backpack which allows the individual to begin recovery with dignity, strength, and knowledge that someone cares about them.

Additionally, Purse Impressions provides diaper bags, school backpacks and holiday toys to children residing with a parent in sober living housing.

The purses are filled with hygiene items, makeup, and jewelry for the women. Men are gifted backpacks with hygiene and socks. The children's bags include diaper bags with infant hygiene, backpacks with school supplies and holiday bags filled with toys and candy.

Timeline for the project is September 2024 - January 2025.

Rotarians of Rotary Club of Scottsdale North will participate in this project by preparing the grant with the recipient, shepherd the grant through the grant process. RCSN Rotarians will assist with assemblage of the "Fresh Start" purses and backpacks. Additionally, we hope to have RCSN Rotarians meet with some of the recipients of these "Fresh Start" purses and backpacks to understand how it helped them in their recovery process.

Publicity will involve posting of information and pictures on the RCSN various social media channels regarding this District Grant and placement of a card in the "Fresh Start" purses and backpacks indicating the contents were furnished by Rotary Club of Scottsdale North including the Rotary Wheel.

The district grant process is progressing but is delayed somewhat due to the second round of grant submissions. We will notify you as soon as the grant funds are available. Reminder: No money should be spent until the funds are sent to the clubs. No receipts for spending prior to that can be accepted.
