Summary: Provide transportation, teaching staff and supplies for one year of Arts education for underserved elementary students.
Students at the Cabrillo elementary school in Point Loma, San Diego, come from low income (some homeless) families with limited resources or exposure to Arts. The Naval Training Center Foundation partners with 18 Arts programs including music, textiles, writing, watercolors and dance to engage and inspire local school-aged children who face socio-economic barriers in their lives and where academic success is at risk. This project will provide transportation, teaching staff and supplies for Arts Education for Cabrillo Elementary School students to help them learn in new and creative ways, promote a positive attitude toward learning, increase self esteem and encourage exploration of new possibilities for the future. Members of the Rotary Club of Point Loma will oversee the program and ensure it meets Rotary goals to provide quality education.
This project builds on the success of the 2023-24 project. The School principal will use data from this Rotary project to find alternative, sustainable funding sources in the future.
