Since May 2023, Fullerton Sunrise Rotary (FSR) has been working to revitalize a city park in south Fullerton that had been somewhat underserved, neglected and overgrown with shrubs and bushes. The neighborhood used it as it was available. Gangs and homeless used it at night. Working with the city of Fullerton, FSR has been investing a Saturday each month and approximately 15 - 20 hours of club labor each Saturday, to keep the grounds clean and make improvements. A new park bench was installed by FSR. The community has been stopping by on workdays to thank us for our effort. The City of Fullerton has recognized FSR in their
"Adopt a Park" program for our work. Presently, there is a low height wall surrounding two sides of the park that are bare and get tagged by gangs. FSR has secured permission by the City of Fullerton to clean and paint this wall, have a local artist design an outline of a California scene, and have the painting done by a local artist with the help of neighborhood residents, local Elementary School kids and FSR members. The outline will be filled in by all participants and finally coated with a "nonstick graffiti" coating.
