The Homer-based Altruist Relief Kitchen (ARK) has provided free meals and water to those affected by war and other calamities serving approximately 1,000 meals daily for a cumulative total of 170,000 meals in Ukraine, earthquake-stricken Turkey and Mexico. They are planning to open soon a field kitchen inn the Gaza Strip due to the recent ongoing war.
ARK recently relocated their field kitchen in Ukraine to Lviv which provided more operational efficiency with increased space and locally available firewood for their wood fueled cooking stoves. This cost conscious move is anticipated to decrease meal cost from $0.33 to $0.25. ARK is extremely efficient utilizing recycled material for their tent covers, steel tubing for their tent frames and steel barrels for their cook stoves. As for staffing, they use both volunteers and paid local refugees.
The Altruist Relief Kitchen demonstrates financial transparency with images of all donations matched with associated expenses/receipts which is a pioneering trait for most organization such as theirs. As they stated, they "meticulously crafted layers of financial safeguards and accountability to prevent waste, corruption and misallocation anywhere within the ARK".
Club funding will be accomplished from members participating in the annual Homer HealthFair, Homer Peony Flower Sales and Homer Cranium Trivia Cup.
