Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Carlsbad

Total Budget: $6,400

Area of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment

Activity Type: Health: General

Summary: To provide essential hygiene items to homeless individuals and families in Carlsbad and North SD County enabling those served to move toward self-sufficiency.

Homelessness can be a temporary or chronic issue. This project supports the Interfaith Community Services of Carlsbad program to assist in preventing chronic homelessness in Carlsbad and surrounding communities.

Interfaith's Homeless Prevention program offers emergency rental or mortgage assistance to prevent imminent homelessness. Additionally, Interfaith offers temporary beds for veterans with or without a housing intervention already in place to assist in their transition from homelessness to permanent housing. This is a time to for veterans to work on their physical and mental health concerns, sobriety, employment training, weekly case management and short and long-term goals.

Interfaith offers a variety of permanent housing units and programs that provide safe and affordable housing for homeless community members. Interfaith works within a housing methodology that prioritizes moving homeless individuals into housing as quickly as possible while simultaneously providing right-sized supportive services.Through regular meetings with a Case Manager, community members work to improve their self-sufficiency by identifying and prioritizing goals to achieve independence and stability.

This is a practical, manageable way to serve our community by tying into the established network and 5-star rated, Interfaith Community Services organization.

Our club looks to support their outreach work by the purchase, assembly and delivery of hygiene kits (items placed inside of a large ziplock baggie) with the following items:

Toothbrush; toothpaste; deodorant; hand sanitizer; shampoo; conditioner; body wash/soap; razor; small comb; tampons (in 1/2 of kits).

These kits have been deemed as a significant and persistent need by Interfaith, their network partners and surrounding nonprofit organizations in ongoing outreach to those facing housing insecurity.
