Project Description Country: USA Location: Boise Total Budget: $3,700 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: Supplies for K-6 focus enrichment, playground sensory enrichment and Art supplies Whitney Elementary Project Proposals for Funding Whitney is a Community School that serves a low socio-economic area in Boise 480 students Proposal #1 Friday Focus - all school impact Friday Focus is a yearly enrichment opportunity we offer all students from kindergarten through 6th grade. This enrichment program occurs on the last three Fridays of the school year. Teachers, staff, parents and community members develop an enrichment activity for specific grade levels. These enrichment activities range from learning how to knit, fly drones, play pickleball, make bread or even create a puppet show. Friday Focus allows students to advocate for what they want to learn and engage in activities that they otherwise might not be able to access. As a Community School, we strive to create a responsive culture for learning and this activity helps us fulfill this goal. We would like to propose supporting this yearly enrichment program which totals approximately $1200 per year. Proposal #2 Sensory Paths on the Playground As we continue to strive to meet our learners' needs, we believe adding an outdoor sensory path to the playground would impact students both outside the classroom and in. This will allow students to spend a few minutes walking, hopping, jumping, and bouncing, offering an opportunity to reset emotional challenges in a fun activity. These colorful, creative, playful blacktop designs are a series of guided movements for students to follow, shown by markings on the ground. Students follow the paths and complete the movements while building stronger sensory connections, developing gross motor skills, and learning to self-regulate their behaviors while working off excess energy. This addition to the playground will help us develop a supportive, more engaging student environment. The price for stencils and outdoor paint will cost approximately $2000. Below are some examples of a playground and stencils. To support our art supplies, we will need approximately $500. The art supplies that teachers use daily have diminished and we are in need of items such as: new student and teacher paintbrushes sponge brushes tempura paints glitter 5x7 canvases for classroom projects clay watercolor paper oil pastels Projects are for the 2023/24 school year. Club members will be engaged in providing the materials and checking in with teachers about the effectiveness of project supplies and funding. Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed) Due to achievement of some of the proposed activities of this grant by other organizations, The Rotary Foundation has approved the Birthday Cart project where the club will provide books to be given to students on their birthdays. We want to include your project but will only do so if you complete your reporting on open grants P-3364 and P-4279. The Rotary Foundation approved the District 5400 block grant on July 11, 2023. and you can safely incur costs now. However, we will not be able to send your money on to you when it arrives from TRF until the final report on P-4279 is turned in and reviewed by the district auditor. Please, please, please complete your reporting on your open grant. Call Marianne 208 308-5617 if you have questions about reporting. 12-May-24 by Erik Lund The project has morphed because the Downtown Rotary has provided the $500 required to replenish teacher art supplies, and the school has secured a borrowed stencil for the Sensory Path, eliminating the need to purchase one. Project now provides books to all of the 537 estimated students. They choose any one of the books available on their birthday to read and keep forever. Project started 5-3-24 and will be completed when they run out of books to give away, within twelve months.
