Summary: We will build bicycles, decorate and fill Sweet Cases that will then be given to kids living in foster care in Orange County.
When a child is moved to a new home within the foster care system, the County gives them a black trash bag in which to put their belongings. On average kids are moved to a new home every 9-12 months! Imagine how demeaning that must feel. Sweet Cases are big, black duffel bags that our Rotary Club will decorate with inspiring artwork and fill with a blanket, stuffed animal, hygiene kit, and art supplies. The bags are a dignified way to store and move one's things and will hopefully serve as a reminder that the child is worthy, loved, and thought of by others. We will also build bicycles of various sizes. The bikes will provide an opportunity to get outside, play, and be active. For older kids, the bikes will serve as a mode of transportation to and from school or work. The Sweet Cases and the bikes will then be distributed/donated to kids living in foster care in Orange County. We would like to do this project before the holidays - sometime between Oct 2023 and December 2023. Our project funds are used to buy "kits" for the Sweet Cases and bicycles from a non-profit in Brea, called Foster Love. This group also distributes the final products to the kids. Our Club members decorate, stuff, and build all the items we're giving back to the foster youth.
