Community Development: Disaster Recovery
Summary: An enclosed Disaster Relief trailer with tools for District 5790 to give families hope and help in times of disaster.
If/When a disaster strikes our district there is no plan in place to communicate or coordinate our membership regarding ways to assist the community. I'm proposing we purchase and stock an approximately 18' disaster relief trailer. Our District is currently in the process of creating a Disaster Relief committee in which the clubs will soon be notified that volunteering opportunities will be available. The trailer would serve as the District memberships rallying point/control center when that happens. The trailer will be stocked with gloves, masks, boots, hand tools, wheelbarrows, chain saws, water purifiers, solar lights, generators, etc. It will also have food preparation capabilities as infrastructure in disaster areas are traditionally non-existent.
This project is also being funded by Disaster Aid USA (DAUSA), which has been a nation-wide Rotary project since 2010. DAUSA predominantly helps low-income communities in disasters and they are donating $5000 to help kick-off the project. I would love to put District 5790's logo on the trailer as well. The trailer will also serve as a training and awareness tool for Rotary to interact within the community even in non-disaster times.
Paid
This project is "Paid". This means that the funds from the district have been issued. This project is now being ready for implementation. When this is done, a report needs to be uploaded on the project page and the "Reported" button needs to be clicked, then the status of the project will be changed to "Reported".
