Summary: The Hartsdale-Greenburgh Rotary looks to battle food insecurity by engaging our community in growing food.
The Hartsdale Greenburgh Rotary will partner with Bridging Dots, the Theodore Young Community Center, and the Town of Greenburgh Teen Task Force to combat food insecurity in Westchester on a sustainable and long-term basis by developing the TDYCC Community Garden. Slated to be built in Yosemite park (in our local town of Greenburgh), the Garden is designed to produce fresh fruits and vegetables for a Greenburgh community that is under-served by local grocery stores, as well as providing a multi-generational and hands-on learning experience for general gardening and creating gardens at home. Our partnership has identified @ 500 people with ongoing need, and funds received will be spent on building the garden infrastructure and making it ready for planting in the Spring of 2023.
Bridging Dots, along with the Town of Greenburgh Teen Task Force, is a group of high-school age volunteers. The Theodore Young Community Center has a long history of mentoring this age group -- together, our efforts will increase engagement of our young people in community service, in a collective partnership with the Town.
We anticipate that eight of our club members will be active in the project.
