Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Preston

Total Budget: $2,500

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: General

Summary: Provide backpacks and school supplies for underprivleged elementary school children.

With almost 17% of children living below the poverty line in Franklin County Idaho our Rotary Club is looking for projects to help kids and family with economic need. Our project is focused on a small but needed area of providing school supplies. We are working to provide backpacks and supplies for incoming 5th-grade students of Oakwood Elementary school. The Preston Education Foundation helps us determine the number of students in need and we intend to help every in-need child.

The Preston Club is raising/has raised funds to provide our share of purchasing the backpacks and supplies and will provide all the labor needed to get the backpacks to the teachers to distribute. This will be done in August of 2022.

Your project is to be included in the district's block grant application to The Rotary Foundation, but we will not be able to fund to the full request because it was submitted late (2nd signature on June 2, after the deadline). I am cancelling the signature process to allow you to make the needed changes: reduce the DDF to $1000 and increase your club contribution to $1500. Do this on the admin side of the description tab. After the changes are made, send again for signatures. Remember not to incur any costs until notified that The Rotary Foundation has approved our block grant. Call Marianne if you have questions or need help: (208) 308-5617.

Your grant application for student backbacks has been accepted by the committee for inclusion in the D5400 block grant application to TRF with a reduced DDF amount of $1,000. The reduction in funding is due to the application being submitted late (not fully signed until June 2nd) If you wish to go forward with your project, please change the financing to reflect this, also increasing cash contributions to maintain the project total. Send again for signature of the project manager once the financing has been changed. Please do this no later than July 7, sooner the better. If you have questions or need help, you can call Marianne Barker (208)308-5617. Thank you for your participation in the D5400 TRF grants program.

Your district grant application has been accepted for inclusion in our block grant application to The Rotary Foundation. It has not been approved. Do not spend money on the project until you hear from the district that TRF has approved our block grant (likely sometime this month), as you cannot be reimbursed for expenses incurred prior to TRF approval. Call Marianne Barker at 208 308-5617 if you have any questions. Thank you!

You'll find the report form on the admin side of the description tab for download. Complete the report, save as pdf and upload to the documents tab along with supporting receipts. If project is not complete, provide a progress report by sending a history log email stating when you started the project, what percent complete it is and when you anticipate being wrapped up. That's all we need for a progress report. Failure to report may impact your club's ability to receive a grant in the 2023-24 cycle, so please get your report in. Thank you for submitting your report. You need to go back to the school and find our what more supplies you can purchase with your remaining money. I'm certain the teachers will have needs for the same type of supplies going forward that you can purchase and distribute to them now, spending the remaining project money. This should be easy to do. Neither the district nor The Rotary Foundation wants to take back the money. I've reverted your project to paid so that you can upload more receipts and a revised report when you're finished. Please try to get this done right away during this school year.
