Summary: Materials to complete the outdoor 'learning garden' at Whitney Elementary School in Boise, Idaho
Whitney School serves what is considered the lowest socio economic neighborhood among the several Title One elementary schools in Boise. Rotary Club of Boise and Boise SW Rotary Club have a history of supporting Whitney with various activity and infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing and broadening the educational experience of the students. The school is currently seeking financial and labor assistance in rehabilitating a space previously (but no longer) used as a community garden and converting it into a learning garden for the students. With their teachers, the students will be able to learn how to plant and maintain a garden and also enjoy new seating within the garden area for a pleasant outdoor classroom environment to be shared across the school. The garden will include vegetables, as well as a pollinator flower beds, which will benefit the environment, as well as facilitating science curriculum. In the absence of this project, many/most of these students would not be exposed to gardening. Rotary funds will be used to purchase materials, primarily wood for the outdoor seating and drip lines for the irrigation system. This is be a partnership with Boise SW Club, which has volunteered to provide expertise in building the benches.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
This note is to clarify the benches for the learning garden outdoor seating will be constructed by Rotarians from Rotary Club of Boise and Boise SW Rotary Club. Between Todd Fischer of the Boise Club and Marc Renz of the Boise SW Club, we have plenty of woodworking and carpentry expertise. Additional Rotarian volunteers will make this a fun and efficient project!

Rotary Foundation grants require active Rotarian involvement. It isn't clear from your project description who is building the benches. On the admin side of the description tab in your grant, click on "edit project page". Add an addendum to clarify what the Rotarians in your club will be doing. Please add this information before June 30th.

Your district grant project has been included in D5400's block grant application to The Rotary Foundation. It is not yet approved. Do not place orders or spend money on the project until you hear from the district that TRF has approved our block grant (likely sometime this month), as you cannot be reimbursed for expenses incurred prior to TRF approval. Is your project completed? If it is, please upload your receipts for purchase of materials and complete your final report. Find the report form on the administration side of the description tab. No need to respond to this email. If the project is not finished, just remember to enter a history log progress report between April 1 and May 15 to remain in compliance with grant reporting requirements.

A grant report is due no later than May 15th, 2023. Failure to report by the deadline may impact your club's ability to receive a grant in 2023-24 Rotary year. For final report, download the report form from the administration side of the description tab. Fill it out, being sure that the expenses listed in the report match your receipts and any other documentation of expenses you provide. Upload pdf copies of your report and the receipts to the documents tab of your grant. Then click "reported", a button on the administration side of the description tab. If the project is not done, file a progress report - a history log telling us when you started the project, what % complete you are & when you plan to finish it out. This project is about 50% complete. The benches for the learning garden have been built and installed. $518 have been dispersed to pay for these materials. Still ahead is the drip irrigation system and plantings, including the pollinator garden.
