Project Description Country: USA Location: Gilbert, Arizona, USA Total Budget: $11,500 Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy Activity Type: Education: General Summary: Provide new dictionaries to third graders in Gilbert, East Mesa and Queen Creek Dictionaries may be used by students during merit testing, but schools cannot afford them. Teachers use the extensive glossaries to teach geography, current events, astronomy, sign language and mathematics. Club members sticker each dictionary with a Rotary sticker and Four-Way Test sticker, deliver the boxes to the schools and, when allowed, make a short presentation about Rotary, and learning new words, their meanings and spellings. The program has been well-received by over thirty schools for nearly 20 years. The physical book is not dead and we can prove it.
