Project Description

Country: USA

Location: Gillette, Wyoming

Total Budget: $3,541

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Activity Type: Water: Sanitation

Summary: The Gutter Bin stormwater filtration system is to be installed in three locations identified by the City of Gillette Public Works Department, that have a higher pollution rate from stormwater drainage than other areas.

The City of Gillette Public Works Department has identified three locations that have a higher pollution rate from stormwater drainage than other areas. Gillette Rotary Club would like to have a Drop Inlet Filter (DIF) Gutter Bin stormwater filtration system installed at each of these locations at a cost of $1,488.30 per bin. The filters are designed to help protect and restore watersheds and help remove trash, microplastics, sediments, oils, greases, and heavy metals from stormwaters. The business that designed the Gutter Bin, Frog Creek Partners, are located out of Casper, Wyoming and will travel to Gillette to help with the 5-minute installation. The Gutter Bins are fitted with what is called a Mundus Bag, which is what captures the trash, etc. The bags are serviced depending on the amount of pollutants filling the bag and take approximately 2 minutes to change out. We'd like to have the Gutter Bins installed in the late Spring of 2022 to catch the June rains. Gillette Rotary Club would contribute $1,488.30 for one bin and a District Grant of $2,976.60 would cover two more bins, for a project total of $4,464.90. The Gutter Bins would help improve the health of our community water systems for years to come. An added bonus to this project is the continued and valuable relationship between Gillette Rotary Club and the City of Gillette for future projects.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

The installation will include all Rotarians that want to attend the installation of the Gutter Bin at each site, more than likely on a regular meeting day.

Jennifer,

In order to be considered for a District grant there has to be Rotarian involvement with the project. The club can not just give money to purchase the gutter bins. Please add to the description how your club will be involved in the project.

Also, you need to upload a detailed budget of income and expenses to

the documents area.

Jennifer,

I have cancelled the signatures so you can edit the project area. Due to the number of grant requests vs the amount of money the District had left for 2nd round grants we are reducing all grants by 31%. Please adjust your financing and budget to $2053 DDF and resign the grant by December 26th.

The Gutter Bin Project is still in the planning stages. Brian with Frog Creek Partners is currently coordinating with the City in regards to the installation and locations. We do not have a date set yet. Brian is also working with a couple of local/regional entities that are interested in sponsoring some Gutter Bins as well, to broaden the scope of the project and help build a greater coalition of community partnerships. We did decide to go with just two Gutter Bins since the grant money received was less than submitted for. I hope the next update will be either a definitive date set for completion, or a completed project.

UPDATE: This project is ongoing. We had an installation date of December 13th on the calendar, but a large snowstorm delayed installation until 2023. The newest installation date is set for February 28th. We will hope for good weather so this can finally be completed. This has been a long process. We are waiting for confirmation from the City of Gillette for final approval of the February 28th date, but I am fairly certain it will be approved. Brian Deurloo with Frog Creek Partners is the one doing the installation.

After a couple further weather delays from the previous update, I am happy to report that on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, the weather cooperated and the Gutter Bins were finally installed in downtown Gillette, Wyoming by Brian Deurloo with Frog Creek Partners and a couple of his team members. Besides our two Bins, Gillette Steel Center also had two installed on mainstreet as well. Gillette Steel Center partners with Frog Creek Partners and is the manufacturer of the custom grates that are sometimes installed along with the bins. We are hopeful these will catch garbage and debris before it would enter our local water systems.

Jennifer,

Did you upload the district grant report form and the receipts? I don't see them in the documents area of the grant.
