Hurricane Ida's devastating rain and flooding severely impacted the Village of Port Chester and its residents. Many residents are still recovering and addressing property damage and the loss of loved ones. Twenty families have been permanently displaced because of the hurricane and currently reside at the Carver Center in Port Chester, NY. In coordination with the Village of Port Chester, Red Cross, and the Carver Center, the Rotary Club of Port Chester- Rye Brook (PCRB Rotary Club) has identified five of the twenty displaced families who have a greater need of assistance determined by the presence of children, the elderly, job security, health conditions etc. The PCRB Rotary Club with assistance from the Carver Center, will identify a list of items each family requires as colder weather approaches. The PCRB Rotary Club will budget $5,500 total ($3,000 club contribution, $2,500 in district matching grant) so that $1100 is available to each family. The PCRB Club will provide each family with a Winter Preparation Kit which will include winter coats, boots, gloves, mittens, hats, socks, and blankets to help replace lost winter items each family needs. Club members will be responsible for purchasing the items based on family requests, packaging the items together and delivering them to the Carver Center by December 1, 2021.
