Project Description

Country: USA

Location: New York

Total Budget: $5,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Scholarship

Summary: Supporting students from low-income minority groups with technologies for remote learning

Technology is an essential component of our life in every sector, especially in education. The pandemic has imposed numerous restrictions to civilization, including social distancing, which, in turn, increased the need for advanced technology. But the situation in academia raised some serious concerns because students from minority and low-income families cannot afford buying technologies for remote learning and hence getting deprived of proper education. The Rotary E-Club of Heritage New York proposes to donate necessary technologies to selected needy students in New York. The total budget is $5,000.00 with which the Club is expecting to provide technological support (chrome books) to at least five students. The technologies will stay with the school and selected needy students will rent them each year. Therefore, this project will have a long-term impact on education. Club will generate $2500 and request for a grant of $2500 from the Rotary District.

Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)

The Club will work with the School District that represent a low-income group. The School IT will follow their policy in getting the technologies with standard specifications and warranty. Then the School authority will also select the students for distribution of the technologies. The Club will not get involved to the purchase or selection of students but will monitor the process in order to make sure that the donation is being utilized properly.
