Shiloh Field Community Garden grows fruits and vegetables for 15 nonprofit pantries and kitchens across Denton County. Their goal is to produce 80,000 pounds of produce a year. Currently, they are on track to produce 60,000 pounds. Shiloh Field is the largest community garden in the United States.
$3,000 will fund an irrigation system for the new field blocks that can be installed in October 2021. The county funded a similar irrigation system for the recently completed raised beds, and it is working well. This funding will cover the cost of tubing, sprinkler heads, and controls. Water supply to the field already exists. Once installed, the irrigation system will sustain the field blocks for years to come.
