Urban Street Angels is an organization that works with homeless 18-25 year olds. A lot of the youth participating in the program are underemployed.
The Pacific Beach Rotaract club will create and host job searching, resume building, interview prep, and mock interviews with the youth engaged in the program. To incentivize the youth to attend and engage in the workshops, we will provide food and prizes for attendance and engagement. Prizes will include gift cards for groceries, clothing, and recreational items the youth enjoy. Guest speakers will share their experiences overcoming adversity to encourage the youth to better their own lives.
The seminars will occur over the period of 6 months, with engagement from Pacific Beach Rotaractors, Rotarians, and Urban Street Angels employees. Members of the club will help plan, lead, and facilitate the workshops. By the end of the workshops, youth will be able to successfully locate employment opportunities, complete interviews, and gain employment.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
Urban Street Angels was no longer able to work with us on this project.
Instead we partnered with Shoreline Community Services, and supported their opening of the Compass Station, a daily resource center for people experiencing homelessness in the beach area. Our funding was able to purchase 20 chairs for the center.
