Rotary EClub of San Diego Global wants to award 5 scholarships ($400 each) to qualified students continuing their college education the school year 2021-22 in Guatemala. These students are the first in their respective families to finish high school and attend the first year of college. The funds will go to admission fees and tuition. Other contributions to their education, including internet access, transportation, and books, will be supplied from a group of women who are members and friends of RECGSD.
Four students are attending the Universidad Rafael Landivar in Antiguan, studying business administration, and one, Universidad Mariano Galvez de Guatemala in Guatemala City, studying engineering.
Guatemala was hard hit by the pandemic and is slow getting vaccinations and their economy back. These students had a thriving tourism business before the pandemic. They will, no doubt, bounce back with the advantage of a college education, creating a positive future for themselves, their families and their community. They will help build Guatemala's middle class being the future leaders in rebuilding an economy with needed business and engineering skills.
