Our area has seen an increase in domestic violence and human trafficking to women and children. The Sandhills Crisis Intervention Program (SCIP) provides support and counseling to the 5 county region. They assist women and children in need to leave a domestic violence situation and become independent and capable of being self-sufficient. They provide emergency shelter which can cost a minimum of $75/night, provide food and clothing as needed. Some victims come to SCIP with nothing but the clothing they are wearing. The increased drugs in the area and legalizing meth in neighboring states has contributed to the increase in violence in addition to the upward trend in human trafficking across the country and being located on I-80 in Nebraska is a significant pipeline for this behavior. Our club members will assist to raise money to donate to SCIP to provide basic human rights for women and children of food, clothing and shelter.
Addendum to Project Description (added after the project was signed)
We participated in the Keith County Community Foundation BIG GIVE last summer and also raised money from that effort that we were able to donate to SCIP. So between the District Grant, the KKCF matching grant and the club donation we were able to donate a total of $1592.01 to the Sandhills Crisis Intervention program.
