The Rotary Club of St. Paul would like assist the Howard County Sheriff's office in providing First Aid training and supplies to officers. The training would be for 2 officers to be trained at the instructor level. These 2 officers would then be able train other officers both in Howard County and outside of Howard County. More importantly, they would provide First Aid training to the youth of Howard County. In our rural community, with agriculture being a prominent source of income, farm accidents are very common. It is felt that First Aid training is very important for our youth.
Funds would also be used for First Aid supplies for officers. Due to budgetary constraints, only a very limited amount of supplies are available to officers. They often end up augmenting their First Aid supplies through their own income. Most items are one time use items that need to be replaced and have a limited shelf life. With limited funds available for replenishing those supplies, it puts officer's and other's survival at risk if injured during a critical incident. In the first 8 months of 2019, 7 of 9 officers had been shot at, shot someone or had been stabbed. That is 77% of staff involved in incidents were medical kits were required. Not to mention all of the injury accidents that officers start to render aid prior to EMS arrival.
$2400 is the projected budget for Instructor level training for 2 officers and for First Aid supplies.
Examples of supplies are: 6" Emergency Trauma Dressing, CAT-T Tourniquets, S Rolled Gauze, Nsaopharyngeal Airway with lube, Hyfin Vent Chest Seals, Emergency Survival wraps, Burn Tee Dressing 4x4, Triangular bandages, polycarbonate eye sheilds, Sam Splints, Gloves, Trauma Shears, Pocket Pen Light, Mini Duct Tape, Mini Surgical Tape, Permanent Marker, Flexible bandages, Gauze Pads 4x4, Forceps, Antiseptic Wipes and Ointment, QuickClot EMS Hemostatic Dressings, Wound Packing Gauze, Tactical Combat Wraps, Combat Casualty Reference Cards, Abdominal Emergency Trauma Dressings, ARS Needle Decompression Kits, Quick Litters, RUF Bags, Celox-A Hemostatic Agent.
