Project Shepherd is a City of Lakewood assistance program that identifies those in the community in need of temporary assistance with food, utility payments, school supplies, and toys during the holiday season. Project Shepherd works with the community to collect food, toys, personal-care items, school items, and other donations to provide assistance year round. Hundreds of families are served each year and were assisted during 2020 and into 2021 during the COVID crisis.
Project funds purchase backpacks, school supplies, food, and grocery gift cards to those identified Lakewood residents who are in need. Club members volunteer in various
aspects of Project Shepherd, including serving on the Board, purchasing items, sorting food goods, boxing and delivering those goods, manning the "Teddy Bear Tree" during the holiday season to collect community donated toys, and delivering food and items to families, seniors, and those with disabilities.
