Mesa Rotary Club in partnership with world renowned cellist Zuill Bailey and Mesa based Desert Sounds, a non-profit music education program, will provide two creative educational programs for students in our community. The director of the Mesa Arts Center has identified a need to bring music education into the lives of more students. The Director will expand on an existing program to provide music education, enlightenment, and empowerment for approximately 800 students; underserved populations are included. The goal is to improve access to the arts, build confidence and leadership through music education, and ultimately improve the lives of young people.
"Empowering Youth through Music", will support Classical music seminars, led by Mr. Bailey and guest musicians, for elementary and high school students in Mesa. This Grant will also fund the purchase and long-term service of 10 refurbished musical instruments for local students enrolled in Desert Sounds, a community based music education program for students in need.
Funds will be used to offset the expense of 2 guest musicians, providing multiple seminars for approximately 800 students and the purchase of 10 musical instruments, along with discounted long-term service contracts. Mr. Bailey will work on a volunteer basis and our Rotarians will volunteer to clean the refurbished instruments to reduce the cost of purchase, thus allowing us to purchase 2 additional instruments(10 vs 8). District 5495 and Mesa Rotary will be recognized for their support of this creative program by Mesa Arts Center and Desert Sounds.
