Project Description Country: USA Location: Morrill Total Budget: $11,193 Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene Activity Type: Education: General Summary: Well drilled and connected to new Ag Education Complex Morrill Public Schools Ag Education is moving from a classroom in the high school to a 10 acre property. This property will house a 5000 sq foot Ag Education Complex, a pasture and crop production area. The building will house a classroom and a processing kitchen in order to facilitate farm to table production from the growable area to the school cafeteria. This will allow us to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to the school cafeteria and thereby to all 450 students. Morrill Public Schools serves the communities of Morrill, Henry and Lyman and our population and 72% poverty. This project will include not only high school students but elementary classes will participate in growing vegetables and fruits in order to have healthy produce to eat and also to learn potential career skills as our region is primarily agriculture based. This building will also serve the Morrill-Mitchell FFA Chapter, serving a joint population of 1000 students. The property has an ag well on it to water the pasture and growable garden space, but does not have a well for potable water. In order to have water in the classroom and processing kitchen that is usable for drinkable water and wash fruits and vegetables, we need to drill a new potable water well. Our Rotary Club members will participate in providing water education as part of the ongoing partnership between the Morrill Rotary Club and the Morrill Schools Ag Education program. We will provide Club and District Rotary recognition by means of The VOICE (our local paper), the Scottsbluff Star Herald, and with a Plaque at the entrance to the building as well as in a permanent Clean Water Message Board that demonstrates the importance of Water Education and thanks the Local Club and the Rotary District for their contribution to this particular project and informs forever the students, staff and patrons who enter the building about the impact that Rotary International makes around the world in Clean Water initiatives.
