Project Description

Country: Israel

Location: East Jerusalem

Total Budget: $3,322

Areas of Focus: Peacebuilding and conflict prevention, Maternal and child health, Basic education and literacy

Activity Type: Education: Literacy

Summary: Provide funding for Children's Therapy and Education Needs in East Jerusalem

Recent unrest in Jerusalem has disrupted grade school children who need individualized remedial and therapeutic instruction. These services, reliably provided by the Spafford's Children's Center in East Jerusalem, have been financially impacted at a time when these services are needed most. Spafford is an well established and trusted children's educational charity that has been in operation in Jerusalem since 1925. Club and District Grant proceeds will provide 11 weeks of instruction to 28 students in the subjects of Arabic, English and Math. Upon award of the grant, the funding will be sent directly to The American Friends of The Spafford Children's Center, a USA Based 501(c)3 arm of The Spafford Children's Center, allowing Spafford to secure teachers and reserve spaces for the children in the classes. Club members will participate by reading children's books in English, and recording and uploading them to a cloud server for teachers to use as tools to improve conversational English. The club will also participate by viewing video taped school presentations by the students. These videos will form the basis for a club meeting program during the year. Club members will also write simple letters to be sent to children for them to read, providing them connections to new friends in America. We anticipate the project will be completed be completed by December 31, 2021.

Tier 3 district grants require a written spending plan to be included with your application. What specifically is $3,020 intended to buy? An example might be that it would "pay registration fees for 10 children to attend therapeutic drama classes." Get as specific as you can. Remember that TRF grants cannot be used for "the operating, administrative, or indirect program expenses of another organization". It will facilitate your reporting if you can nail down the specifics of your investment so that the acknowledgement letter you get from the charity (your receipt) can reflect how they are to spend your gift.

I transposed a couple of numbers when I changed your financing in the financing tab. I entered $1,821 instead of $1,812 as was stated in my previous message. My apologies. Grant has been re-sent for signatures.

Club members read and record children's books to be shared with Spafford Children's Center students to be used in English curriculum. To begin with two children's books whose titles are "Goldilocks" and "The Snowy Day" were read by Club President, Amy Campbell, and recorded by club member Rich Kirkham. Club member Jim Young edited the videos and prepared them for uploading to the cloud. Club secretary Darl Bennett uploaded the videos to our the club's data storage service and links to the videos were placed on the homepage of our club's website. The links were then sent to the Spafford Center so the videos can be used and shared by the English Teachers and students.
